this is how we grow

gus can't hide things well. there's no guessing what is going on with that dude, unlike hudson, who is a big question mark 90% of the time. now that august has the two year old bipolar mood swings i can count on one of two things every mealtime: "GUS NO EAT" or "more please cock cocks more more eat food num num." i was amazed tonight. h had a rough day, really rough with no naps, and houston was crabby toward the end of the day so i got out the frozen chicken and organic mixed veggies. gus nuked everything himself (with my supervision or he'd have cooked the chicken for 13 minutes instead of 1:30). he ate an entire package of mixed veggies and five pieces of chicken. he kept asking for more, so i gave him the serving bowl. it took him almost an hour, but every time i asked if he was done he said no, and i left him be. i felt bad for leaving to get hudson bathed and into bed but h was crying so it had to be done.
after that we played airplane, got pj's on, and snuggled. i always sing to him and try to lay with him a little, even if it's for a few minutes. tonight i snuggled in his little bed and rubbed his back until he was sound asleep. i never have that luxury because hudson is usually up still, but now that i put him down first i can stay with gus. it's priceless time that i missed so much. given his appetite this week, i'm expecting him to gain a few inches soon. the snarling green monster that is Two Year Old was not out today. i'm glad i'm able to keep my perspective on this so far.
