i like how that sounds. i think this was a bad week for friends over, due to his,um, intensity...however i though it would work and it did. he got a little weird at the end but perked up for a snack and watching milo and otis. that's another movie we dug out. anyway it was so much fun to have laura and her boys over and get out all the toys. we ate a toddlerific lunch and then moved from space to space. my house seems big enough to me until all of the toys are out :-) i really enjoyed the conversation. that is like gold to me. i try not to isolate myself here but it's difficult now with the cold weather and early bedtimes.
we looked at the "Secret Passage Way" into my attic, which isn't as cool as it sounds. i think simon was expecting what i would have at five years old. i had an obsession with that kind of thing when i was little. we played dinos, train thingys, cars....
august did pretty well with meltdowns until dinner time. he was sooooo tired after they went home so i made him a nest on the floor and put hudson to sleep and i got to WORK on the toy situation. in under an hour i had it all organized, including the closet. i have a pile, smaller than i'd like but i have an up-and-coming toddler, to sell or donate. we are blessed with so many things, 95% gifts, but there is too much for him to play with. the basement stuff is separate because it's for when he's older, and i have a crapload of baby toys in their own bin, but august is in between it all. we don't play much with toys anyway, we paint and dance and cook. i secretly hate playing with toys so i'd rather do the unschooly stuff with him and leave the cars to dad.
to laura: thank you so much for a wonderful day and inspiring me to get some toys out of the house.
