lets pretend

august is engaging more and more in pretend play. montessori theory does not include pretend play and that is the reason we will not put him in that school. i encourage him because his communication is improving along with the make-believe scenarios. he has 'fed' cars and Dcow before but tonight it was more involved. he had to pour milk into a round, hollow block and then Dcow sipped it. he likes to talk about owls, and the incredible hulk. everything is incorporated into owl this and hulk that. for instance, we bought him a treat of hulk cakes that turned his poo green, thus "Hulk Poop." i am hulk mama or owl mama. i have a pic of him pretending to be the hulk on my phone so my phone is "hulk phone." we even exchanged hulk kisses and hugs tonight and he growled for each. it's fun letting him lead. i just wish he would Hulk Poop in his Hulk Potty. maybe if i found him a green potty seat...off to look for that online.

i didn't know that about the montesorri school and pretend play. that surprises and baffles me. so, do they actively discourage pretend play? that's weird. it's such a natural part of children's development. i wish we could send our boys to a montessori school. i'm sure they aren't perfect, but their philosophies beat the heck out of public schools, in my opinion. they are just too expensive.

"i just wish he would hulk poop in his hulk potty." Too funny. :-)

I agree, Laura! That's why we are planning on doing preschool at home and taking things year by year. I don't think it's worth it to go into debt for private school at this point.
