i was thinking about my comment re:montessori theory. i had read on several websites about pretend play and fantasy being discouraged at M schools. i knew that the teachers were not supposed to lead the play, but i had the idea that they made kids stop playing or whatever. i checked out some other sites and found out that i was wrong. this quote comes from a list of misconceptions about M schools and i saw it on two other sites that are more reputable:
8. Montessori is against fantasy; therefore, it stifles creativity.
The fact is that the freedom of the prepared environment encourages creative approaches to problem-solving. And while teacher-directed fantasy is discouraged, fantasy play initiated by the child is viewed as healthy and purposeful. In addition, art and music activities are integral parts of the Montessori classroom.

i still think i would rather keep the boys home with me while they are little. i have fallen in love with leading my son to learning, if that makes sense. i don't feel that i "teach" him, he learns on his own. ( i did teach him to say obama though.) i am overwhelmed every time i think about this monumental task of being their teacher for a while.
i remember my preschool time. i remember playing duck duck goose, and the gift of homemade playdough we got for christmas. i remember the tiny plastic chairs and the tables we sat at to fingerpaint with pudding. i remember going to the restroom in the huge blue bathroom because the toilets were blue.
anyway, i really see august thriving in creative play. since that is my area of expertise, cough cough, i am giddy at the opportunities for learning. i just wanted to clear up that bit about M schools because it bothered me when i read it the first few times so i wanted to see if i was reading good info.
